How to pay NSSF through Mpesa

The National Social Security Fund (NSSF) is a Kenyan government agency that is responsible for collecting, distributing, and investing retirement funds for informal and formal employees. NSSF has made it easy for its members to pay NSSF through Mpesa. It acts as a retirement saving institution.

The National Social Security Fund was established in 1965. All employers are required to register with the Fund and submit their employees' NSSF contributions every month.

The NSSF amount you contribute will depend on the year's rates. The employer should pay 6% and the employee pays the other 6% totaling 12%. The employee's contributions are deducted directly from their salaries and wages. The employer's contribution comes from the employers.

You need to be a registered member of NSSF to access the services. You will need the following documents to be registered

  • Your original identification card, alien card, or passport
  • Introduction letter from your employer with the required details
  • A valid copy of your Kenya Revenue Authority PIN certificate

You can also register using the SSDC code *303#. Once registered, you should start making your contributions to NSSF.

Contributions are made by using Mpesa. You can follow the following steps to pay NSSF through Mpesa pay bill.

  • Go to your sim toolkit, Mpesa app, or Safaricom App
  • Go to Lipa Na Mpesa
  • Select pay bill
  • The official NSSF pay bill number is 333300
  • For the account number, put your nine-digit NSSF account number
  • Put the amount you want to pay. You can pay between Ksh. 200 to Ksh. 140,000.
  • Enter your Mpesa PIN
  • Before pressing OK, confirm if the details are correct. That is the pay bill number, the account number, and the amount you want to pay
  • Press Ok

You will receive an SMS confirming if the transaction has been successful.

Kindly note that failure to pay your monthly (NSSF) National Social Security Fund will attract a 5% penalty of the total contributions for each month. The payments should be made by the 15th of every month.
